Lahaina, Maui
Don Jones
We've been on a number of snorkeling trips, but the one we recently did in
Maui was easily the best. We sailed on Celebrity Infinity, and the
excursion was run by the Pacific Whale Foundation. We took a sailing
catamaran (which fortunately had a motor, too!) to a quiet cove on Lanai'i,
where there were beautiful coral formations just a few feet underwater. We
saw sea turtles and even glimpsed some dolphins a way out. The trip back
was the icing on the cake as the friendly, helpful crew grilled lunch on a
grill they've got bolted to the stern of the boat. Mai-tais, beer, wine,
and soft drinks were included, as was all snorkeling gear. They even had
prescription face masks for people who wear glasses! This was a well-run
trip, much more so than other snorkel trips we spoke to other passengers
about, where they were in rough waters and didn't see much or enjoy
themselves much.
