Nawiliwili, Kauai

Saturday we arrived in Kauai at about 7:00.  Our friends had arranged a van for rental at the airport. I had arranged rental at the Hertz kiosk in the Marriott after someone recommended it’s close proximity to the pier. But we ended up at the airport Hertz location. The Marriott wasn’t as close as I thought.  We met up with our party and headed out towards Hanalei. We stopped at an outdoor craft fair and then made our way to the Kileaua lighthouse. Great views and more photos. We then stopped at a beach we had seen from the lighthouse. Then we headed to Hanalei. We drove all the way to the end of the highway. Saw the caves and small villages. We bought Niihau shell bracelets from a vendor before heading back. We stopped for lunch at a quaint little restaurant not far from the small church and walked through some of the shops. It clouded up on our way back but it had been a great day. The itinerary from the cruise brochure says we leave this port at 4:00 p.m. But we left at 6:00. We were glad for the extra time. It isn’t very far back to Honolulu so we didn’t have to go quite so fast. Kauai regulations forbid the ship leaving port after dark, which was why the 6:00 time came into play.
